Construction of the neo-Gothic building began in 1912, was delayed due to World War I, and was finally completed in 1919. Originally part of the Josefstadt parish, the church was granted the status of an independent parish. Masses are held in German, Hungarian, and Romanian in the church.

Charlotenburg – Romania’s only “round village”
(25. September 2025)
Just a few kilometres from Timișoara, in Timiș County in the Romanian Banat region, lies the village of Charlotenburg (also known as Sarlota). Charlotenburg is unique: it is considered Romania’s only “round village”. It was founded in 1771 by 32 families – a total of 171 people – who immigrated from Baden-Württemberg, Alsace-Lorraine and the German-speaking Trentino region.
The village was founded primarily by Count Karl-Ignaz von Clary und Aldringen, who was appointed president of the Banat administration in 1769. According to his plan, a village was built in a perfect circle with an inner diameter of around 210 metres.
We would like to thank Mr Frank Schleßmann for sending us these pictures and the corresponding (partial) text/explanation.

Casa (Camping) Ferch in Deta | Timis County 😍😍🇷🇴
(19. Juli 2025)
Camping, guesthouse, museum, and much more… Casa Ferch in the town of Deta, located just under an hour south of Timisoara in western Romania, is definitely worth a visit.
Yesterday, we visited the house/campsite. It is run by a couple from Vienna, who warmly welcomed us and treated us… it was pure hospitality and kindness, and… it was perfect!
Over the next few hours, we met many guests and locals from the region over coffee, cake, and lunch — Austrians, Swabians from the Banat/Timisoara area, and many more! It felt as if we had always lived there. 🥰 Thanks again to Margit, her husband, the Swabian “Hansi who travels the world,” and everyone we had the pleasure to meet.

Maria Theresa Bastion – in the centre of Timișoara
(30. Mai 2025)
The Maria Theresa Bastion is the last remaining bastion of the former Austro-Hungarian fortress in Timișoara.
It was built between 1730 and 1735 and is named after the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa. Originally, the fortress had nine bastions, but after the demolition of the fortifications in 1892, only this one bastion remains.
Today, the bastion houses galleries, restaurants and bars that fill the historic ambience with contemporary life. In summer, outdoor concerts are offered, transforming the courtyard into a vibrant cultural venue.
