Tree & Magnificent Garden in Buzias | Timis County
(26 April 2026)
A plane tree (the tree), planted exactly 25 years before the birth of Empress Elisabeth of Austria (nicknamed Sissi) and now 213 years old (again, the tree).
The tree stands in the town of Buzias in Timis County, in the magnificent garden featuring a circular wooden pavilion, whose construction was commissioned in 1875 by Emperor Franz Joseph for Empress Sissi. (Buzias is located about 35 kilometers southeast of Timișoara and can be reached by car in about 40 minutes).
A place steeped in history—a lot of history—and we’d love to know what this tree has seen in its lifetime and, above all, who it has met.

Spring Tip for Timișoara: The “Tunnel of Love” 🌸
(18 March 2026)
Every March, the banks of the Bega River behind the cathedral are transformed into a sea of pink blossoms. The striking reddish leaves and light pink blossoms come from the ornamental cherry plum trees (Prunus cerasifera ‘Pissardii’). While they don’t bear edible fruit, they do produce a spectacular display of blossoms that heralds the arrival of spring in Timișoara! An absolute must-see in the city during spring.

In the evening, they bathe the street in a warm light, but they also have a special effect when the sun is shining—when the light shines through them and creates new moods.

Trajan’s Square / Piata Traian – Insider tip in Timisoara for 2026
(9 January 2026)
One of the most important sights in Timisoara in 2026 is Trajan’s Square / Piata Traian. The square was designed in 1740 and was the economic center of the Fabric district. Daily and weekly markets were once held here.
In the wake of the “Timisoara – European Capital of Culture 2023” program, Trajan’s Square is now actively used. The area hosts numerous local community initiatives as well as smaller events, concerts, and exhibitions.
Smaller, temporary markets are held regularly, often focusing on local producers and arts and crafts. These markets differ from the traditional markets of earlier times and often have a modern character.
The Ferment restaurant is also located on the square. At the Foodservice & Hospitality Expo in Bucharest in November 2025, the Ferment restaurant took second place in the Romania Pizza Challenge.
Piata Traian square is definitely worth a visit.
